From Meiling to Rocca | Tronador

Skiing between glaciers or drinking a couple of mates sitting by the window of the hut staring at the hiding behind Monte Tronador. Three days getting to know its huts, crossing its glaciers and skiing some of its best routes. If you like this activity, you can’t miss it. Pictures speak for themselves, don’t they?

Food in the mountains

We recommend that you bring your snacks of choice for those long hours in the mountains. Same goes for your favorite beverages. Eating well is key for keeping your strength up out in the hills. And to cope with the loss of appetite, the best you can have is a wide variety of food, from sweet to sour and salty. Carrying at least 2 liters if water is essential.

Accommodation during the trip

Both nights will be spent at Meiling Hut. Depending on the time of the year services availability may vary. We only need our sleeping bags.

Travel and rescue insurance

An insurance plan is mandatory to protect yourself from the unexpected. Check with your insurance company on the details about coverage and policies. Feel free to contact us for details or in doubt.

Day 1: We leave Bariloche towards Pampa Linda early in the morning. Once in the base of Cerro Tronador, we’ll load our packs and slowly head to Otto Meiling Refuge. Depending on snow and weather conditions, we will leave most of our load at the refuge and head to the edge of “La Motte” and then descend back. Then, we’ll dine and hit the sack. We have a full skiing day tomorrow!

Day 2: After breakfast we’ll go out to give our all through the glaciers of The Tronador. The plan is to traverse/cross to the Rocca Refuge (Paso de las nubes), drink some mate there, stare at the view and return to Meiling Refuge. The descent to Paso de las nubes is amazing. Upon return there are many good routes to ski like the south face of the Alerce Glacier.

Day 3: After giving our all the day before, all that’s left is waking up, having breakfast and going out of the refuge to say goodbye to the mountain. Then, we’ll go back down to Pampa Linda. We’ll take it slow and calm to arrive at the base of The Tronador at around 4 in the afternoon. The end!
