Food in the mountains

We recommend packing your snacks of choice for those long days in the mountains. Same goes for your favorite beverages. Eating well is key for keeping your strength up out in the wild. And to cope with the loss of appetite, the best you can have is a wide variety of food at your disposal, from sweet to sour and salty. Carrying at least 2 liters if water is essential.

Accommodation during the trip

During our expedition we will camp most of the days. Once we are at Todos Los Santos Lake, we stay in cabins with the locals. On the Argentinean side again, we´ll spend a night at Agostino Rocca hut. There you will find all main services. The place offers a USB charging station, restrooms and other amenities.

Day 1: Pampa Linda to Lomas del Huenchupan

We leave Pampa Linda with the aim of crossing to Chile, it is the day with the most elevation of the expedition in which we will have the assistance of horses to reach the Lomas del Huenchupan, a spot with a unique view of the Tronador and a bivouac built by the De La Cruz family. From that day we will be in Chilean lands.

Day 2: Lomas del Huenchupan to Termas de La Junta

Our second day of expedition with backpacks loaded we will go to a dream place, “Las Termas de Leti” where the Blanco River meets the Esperanza River to give rise to a spot between beach trees, streams and hot springs, yes you read that right!! Natural hot springs with a jungle background on the banks of a pristine river.

Day 3: Our rest day in the oasis of our double crossing of the Andes

Day 4: From the hot springs to the Todos los Santos Lake. (Packraft)

We will walk about 4 hours to the confluence of the Blanco and Vuriloche rivers. From here begins one of the most challenging days of the expedition with our boats and backpacks we will go down the Blanco River. A few kilometers before the lake, we will camp in a unique place. Definitely the day with the most adventurous of the entire expedition between rafting and hiking, surely we will have guaranteed fun.

Day 5: Todos los Santos lake crossing (Boat / Packraft)

We will get up and pack the camp. We will paddle to the the lake, to meet René, who will cross us to his farm on the other side. Thus avoiding the most extreme part of the lake. Yannet (his wife), will receive us with delicious food and wonderful hospitality. We slept and dined at the locals house. We said good bye to our packraft equiment.

Day 6: Casa de los Sanchez to Peulla and Paso de las Nubes (Rocca Refuge)

We are leaving Chile, our last day in the land of volcanoes and the valdivian jungle. We take the boat to Peulla and from there a bus to Puerto Frías (27km), where we leave most of our weight in backpacks (tents, kitchen sets, etc.) that returns via lake to Bariloche. While we will head the trail to Paso de las nubes to reach the Rocca hut where they are waiting for us with a delicious dinner and we spend the night in their confortable beds.
